Lone Wolf Design DT Showcase: Lawn Fawn, a little Pink Paislee, and Tattered Angels

Happy Friday, everyone! It’s me again with another Lone Wolf Designs product showcase… and yes, I just can’t get enough of Lawn Fawn! I was inspired at Scrapfest @ the Mall of America in September, so… I went home and placed an order for some more LF goodies (see the link at the bottom of the post for how you can order and save!!) and then I had fun making some stuff.

Did you know that Christmas is only 60 days away? 

I also picked up some Tattered Angels glimmer mist at Scrapfest. I thought it might be fun to add some mist to some of my projects… and holiday was the name of the game.

I had such fun playing with the newer Tag, You’re It Lawn Cuts and coordinating Winter Gifts stamp set!

 I stamped the background with some of the smaller stamps from Winter Gifts and colored in the leaves and berries. I stamped the banner tag on patterned paper and added one of the Winter Gifts sentiments, a little twine, and then assembled and misted!

This is the glimmer mist I chose:

It’s sugar maple, which is a lot less orange than it looks in the photo, thank goodness! It’s a really pretty copper tone. 🙂

The Lawn Fawn make & take I did last month used the jar from Summertime Charm (and coordinating Lawn Cut die) to make the bell jar into a snow globe. Adorable, right?? I added a little kraft envelope behind the green panel so you could add a gift card! The sentiment is from Let it Snow and I embossed it in gold to go with the pretty Pink Paislee snow village paper. 🙂 I added a little clear Stickles to the snowflakes as well.

Then I realized I had an abundance of Lawn Fawn winter sentiments, so I decided to make some subway art tags.

And then I just used the Winter Tags stamps and dies to find the best placement and cut out two tags!

 I sprayed them both with the Tattered Angels mist. SO pretty with the red ink! The top banner die is another cute little tag I made.  It would easily attach to a small gift bag, and doesn’t even need to be a holiday gift… win/win!

And one tag I put on a card. How fun is that? This paper is also by Lawn Fawn.

The Tattered Angels mist is shimmery and it does rub off a bit on your skin… just an FYI for those who do not care for glimmer/glittery products! The shimmer is subtle and though it takes a little practice to get your spritzing just right, it’s fun!

Here are two bonus tags… they kind of got sprayed by accident (yeah, I’m not at my best after 10 pm. I’m more of an early bird) but I actually loved the end result. These are Pink Paislee stamps and paper (cut using the Lawn Fawn largest tag die). I used the stamps from the Snow Village set and a little tag from the Snow Village paper pack for the bottom tag. The top tag was one of those “happy accident” tags… I stamped in a color that wasn’t quite what I wanted, so I shadow stamped over the top with a neutral color and then I kind of liked how it made it look more aged… and then a tiny bit of glimmer mist at the edges gave it even more of an antique look. Bonus!

OWH sketch 193

Time for another Operation Write Home sketch – did you hop yesterday for the World Cardmaking Day blog hop? I did, though I only made it about 2/3 of the way through the hop. I can finish off the rest today. There’s so many great cards! If you didn’t see my card, be sure to scroll down to the next post (there’s blog candy!). 

Today’s sketch is number 193. I really like this sketch! And since my eldest has been sick this weekend, no Mass for me today. She went to bed still feeling really sick but woke up chipper and happy, which is wonderful, but I don’t want her to over-do. And heaven forbid we share germs… no other family wants what she had! 😦

These were my first efforts. The ribbon tab card was #2… my seven year old decimated my bling stash the other day, and I wasn’t liking what bling I had to add on the left side, so I added ribbon tabs.

Then I decided to make a couple more changes, and I really really really liked the end result. See what you think. The left card was #3 and the right was the final card, which is my favorite of all of them.

OWH sketch 192

Happy Sunday! It’s time for Operation Write Home sketch 192. I’m at the very tail end of this Jillibean Soup paper pad, so I think I may make a few more of this theme. 🙂

There were others I would have LOVED to do. We spent nearly an hour waiting in the Lawn Fawn line, but it was so worth it! That’s the bell jar turned upside down for snow globe!! 🙂

And then these are three of the cards I made from the Doodlebug class. We only had time to make 3 in class and we brought three home to complete. Their stuff has glitter, FYI, not OWH safe and not my preference, but the cards turned out very cute. Washi flags are HARD to do but the result is very very cute (top card).

Lone Wolf Designs Showcase: Lawn Fawn’s Lawn Cuts

Happy Friday, people! Am I excited for the weekend – we are going to the lake! Woohoo! It’s supposed to be all of 60 degrees today but hey, lake time is lake time is lake time. 🙂 

Today I am up on the Lone Wolf Designs blog – I was so excited to try out Lawn Fawn’s Lawn Cuts! These are 100% steel dies, made in the USA, and they coordinate perfectly with several of the Lawn Fawn stamp sets! If you’ve been to my blog before, you know I love Lawn Fawn. I met Kelly Marie at Scrapfest last year (at the Mall of America in Bloomington MN). She is the sweetest and her class was SUPER fun! Needless to say it didn’t take much to entice me to expand my Lawn Fawn ‘collection’… 🙂

Recently Kris asked for feedback and some posters suggested they’d like to see more altered items, so I decided to use my new Lawn Fawn stuff to decorate an old clipboard. 

St. Vincent de Paul, 80 cents. Yup, 80 cents. This is rural Wisconsin.

Then I chose some pretty Lawn Fawn papers. These are actually holiday papers. Go figure, right??

 Once I cut the sizes, I rounded the edges with my trusty corner chomper. LOVE that tool.

 Then I had to decide what to do with that ugly clip on top. I thought the gunked-up part would come off, but it was some sort of funky glued mess that I could NOT scrape off. So, paint to the rescue! 

Raided the kid’s craft drawer. Yes, yes I did. I bought it!

 I know, the first coat is never that pretty. You just have to keep going. 🙂

 While it dried, I thought of ideas to further camouflage the ick. Ribbon flower to the rescue! Confession: I haven’t bought glue dots. Like, EVER. I make my own using parchment paper and Aileen’s tack it over and over glue. I even made a little book for them that you can see here. 🙂

Don’t use waxed paper. Trust me. PARCHMENT.

 I didn’t have any large dots left, so I pulled out the large sheet from my glue dot book and poured the glue. The advantage of making your own is making them any size you desire! FYI, you want the glue evenly spread – no holes, but also not super thick unless you don’t mind a longer drying time.

 Since I had the glue out I checked my glue dots book and realized I needed a few more medium sized ones. It may be hard to tell in the photo, but there’s one dry glue dot on the page – top right hand corner. 🙂

make sure you put these to dry where kids and pets can’t get at them. Or else you will have delighted children and/or very irritated pets. 🙂

 Then while I was waiting for everything to dry, I found the stamps I wanted to use. Aren’t those hot air balloons adorable??? It’s too bad that I am terrible at allergic to coloring, but a few My Mind’s Eye scraps and I was in business.

 Choosing how to align the patterns is the most fun!

I think so. 🙂 This is the larger of the 2 balloon stamps.

 Then I got busy with the little banner stamp. I love that stamp!!

Washi tape is a prefect low-tack way to adhere your dies to your image to make sure it doesn’t move. Just use the tapes that are not your favorites. 🙂 These are the coordinating Blue Skies Lawn Cuts.

 The Lawn Cuts are super easy to use. Just stamp the image, line up the die along your stamped edge, tack it down so it doesn’t shift, and run it through your machine!

 Meanwhile, the board was shaping up…

 I went to town on the clouds. It never hurts to cut extra; I’m sure I will use them!

And the next day….

The glue dots had dried. I checked them about 22 hours in and they were dry, so they may have been done sooner. Drying time depends on the weather as well; I’ve noticed high humidity means they will take longer to dry. You know when they are done because they turn clear. 

Ready for use!

 Time to start the ribbon flower! Knot the end of your ribbon and trim off most of the excess – not all of it. Leave a tiny tail.

You can knot the end as many times as you want. It depends on how thick you want your flower middle.

 Smoosh that tail right down in the middle of the glue dot. You don’t want to see it!

Just smoosh it. Trust me.

 Then start winding and twisting. Tack the ribbon down into the glue every little bit; you can twist as much or as little as you like. You can make a puffy flower if you leave it looser; mine generally turn out fairly flat because I like them twisted a lot.

Shaping up!

Once you have most of the glue dot covered, cut a tiny tail. Tuck it behind the glue dot and then run your fingers around the glue dot, smooshing it behind your ribbon.  It’s sticky, yes, but not crazy so.

See how pretty that is? And super duper easy! 3 minutes start to finish, seriously.

  Once you have your ribbon flower adhered, you can use your nail or a bone folder to poke ribbon over any exposed glue. 

Kind of a shabby chic vibe, no?

 I decided to outline the clipboard in twine. A) because it’s pretty and b) because I cut the one side slightly short and I didn’t like seeing the exposed edge. I’m one of those “fudge! I have to fix my mistakes and I’m not throwing this one out!” crafters. Sorry, people.

Voila! I sparkled up the clouds and used adhesive tape on some of the clouds. I think this may end up as a gift for my oldest daughter with a cute little notepad (a shorter one) tucked under the clip. 🙂

What do you think?

Altering item ideas:

• Look anywhere and everywhere for items you can alter, not just in stores. Look around your home – I bet you could find a box, a pail, an old candy tin that you could alter. How about a notebook? 
• If you’re new to altering items, go for easy and inexpensive to try first. Once you see how easy it is – and FUN – then go shopping for shadowboxes and frames. 
• Consider non-traditional items, as well – how about empty containers? I’ve seen great things on pinterest with old jars, empty tea bottles, etc. Just remove the labels and get creative!
• Dollar stores and the dollar section at Target are great places to browse for inexpensive ideas. Thrift stores are also good options; if you don’t thrift, odds are you know someone who does. Ask that person to keep an eye out for you – but a) be specific in what you are looking for, b) note your budget and c) only ask someone you trust NOT to buy you a whole bag of stuff or who might just keep ‘finding you things’ once you’ve said “uncle.” 🙂
• Altered items can be a great mix of crafting tools – use whatever you have in your arsenal (stamps, inks, paper, ribbon/trims, beads, paint, sprays, 3D items, etc).
• Don’t scrimp on quality adhesives – you don’t want to put something together only to have it fall apart! 
• Altered items make fantastic gifts! Spread the love with a personalized frame or a trinket box.

OWH/ODBD September challenge & 6×6 use it up challenge

Hello! 

Today marks the beginning of a new Operation Write Home/Our Daily Bread Designs challenge. This challenge is to use wheels. my first attempt… well, I would show you, but you wouldn’t stick around very long – and I wouldn’t blame you! 🙂 So I went in a different direction, and went to find a trusty OWH sketch (this is 180), and I’m happy to show you the end result:

Notice how I didn’t use ANY patterned paper on that card? Are you shocked? Yes, me too. 🙂

And then… I’ve been trying to use up this My Mind’s Eye Christmas 6×6 pad that I hate dislike kind of very much. I had a moment of inspiration the other day when I realized I could focus on using the non-holiday sides and go for more masculine themes.  I ended up making a few holiday cards and a few masculine. These are the holiday ones:

There were just a few scraps after finishing these, and you can bet I recycled them with no guilt. It was very much an “I shall conquer you” moment… and I am pleased with the end results. No one should use up (what you think is) ugly paper and have made ugly cards, right? That kind of defeats the purpose. This was not a full pad, by the way, maybe 2/3? And I ended up with 15 cards.

This weekend marks the end of the first week of school, our parish fall festival where I failed to make pies and instead purchased them with little guilt, and I think the littlest child is getting sick. On an up note, last night my husband and daughters spent time on YouTube looking for “homemade trapeze systems”. Today he is the best.daddy.ever for getting them a trapeze bar for their play set.

OWH MWT – blue skies are ahead

Today’s Operation Write Home challenge is to make kid cards (not kids making cards, cards that a parent would send home to a child). These cards are so fun to make!! I pulled out some bright paper and some new stamps for this one.

LWD design team showcase: Echo Park & Lawn Fawn

Today I’m showcasing Echo Park and a little Lawn Fawn as well. I snatched up this great EP ‘beautiful life’ 6×6 pad recently, my stacks of other 6×6’s not withstanding. Pretty paper.. I cannot live without my pretty paper!! 

So pretty. And no, I’m not a manicure sort of girl.

So. My first step after flipping through several times was to tear out the papers I most liked and see what combinations jumped out at me. For layering, I used kraft and navy. Hello, Mama was right – basics never go out of style…

So many choices!!

This is so crazy to type, but school starts the day after Labor Day. Each year I give some cards to the teachers as little gift sets – 2 or 3 cards with a tag or two, but I’m perpetually creating them at the 11th hour. No more. I figured a 3 card set and a couple of tags – with an extra to wrap up and tie on the gift – would be a great crafting night project. 

I started with the cards. This one had me wildly thinking for a bit; I didn’t know what to do with those doilies… and then Lawn Fawn’s Jessie’s ABCs to the rescue! Oh my gosh, can I tell you how much I used to HATE alphabet sets? I sold every single set I had because I never used them. And then I went to Scrapfest last year (Mall of America, Bloomington MN, every September. Can you say “girls weekend?”) and saw Kelly Marie of Lawn Fawn in action (if she lived closer we’d have to be stamping buddies. she is the sweetest!), and how EASY these are to use. You just line up the bottom of the individual letters on your acrylic block, and they are perfectly aligned. Genius. It’s pure genius. So I dug ’em out and stamped the “love u”.

I don’t normally use ivory as a layer (or white), but I like it here!

A little tape kept the layers from sliding while I figured out where all the pieces were going.

I broke out my dies from my new ArtBin magnetic organizer for this card! Did you see my review? I LOVE THIS THING. Seriously. But not as much as I love my pretty paper, so to keep going…

Then I decided to go for a simpler card. Everyone always needs a card that could work for multiple occasions .. I love these tiny butterflies and they are the perfect backdrop for this Lawn Fawn sentiment. 🙂

This sweet floral print was the perfect backdrop to use a doily die – and some more Jessie’s ABCs. I had the ‘o’ upside down originally. One stamp and that was clear – and so I flipped it back around!

So pretty! LOVE this color scheme!

And I am my father’s daughter, right? I needed to create some coordinating tags to use up all of the scraps I while making cards. 🙂 For me, taking the smaller pieces and finding a fun design is such fun. This was the first one I made:

And then I made this one! I took two different sentiments from the Lawn Fawn Stay Tuned set to create the sentiment. I LOVE how easy it is to do that with Lawn Fawn stamps.

Walnut Stain…aside from Antique Linen, it’s my go-to ink color. Please pardon the mess. It’s controlled chaos.

I love this tiny set. I love most of LF’s tiny sets. 🙂 I used the “tuning in to say” and the “you rock” together to create my custom sentiment.

This one was a total cleaning-up-putting-away-inspiration-strikes-get-it-all-back-out tag. Do you ever have moments like that?

OWH MWT – Christmas in July

Hello… is it Friday yet? It is HOT and HUMID here in Wisconsin. I’ve not been able to let the kids play outside much this week due to the heat… but we have taken advantage of our community pool’s free swim program. For 45 minutes daily they are open for free; then they close and reopen an hour later. A little time to swim and then I’m not the bad guy who makes everyone leave when they were having so much fun? Total win/win. 🙂

Today’s OWH mid-week challenge is “Christmas in July.” Um, yeah. Last year I challenged the OWH ladies on Facebook to join in making a few cards per month with me… and a few did. This year I challenged them again and we had a LOT of ladies join in. It’s very informal, but every now and then someone will update with how many she made for the month. I think it’s awesome!

My goal is 5 per month until October, but some months I did one or two… others I made 20. Go figure. I’m packing up a few to start sending to Kris, so I pulled out a couple of my favorites:

OWH MWT – things with wings

Hey! Thanks for visiting me today!

I have a local shoebox card swap on Saturday and I’m so darn excited for it! I thought I’d share one of the cards I made for it (we are making two since we are a small group of ladies) since it fits with today’s Operation Write Home challenge to use ‘things with wings.’

At first I didn’t even think of using this card… and then I realized the bird counts. 🙂
