OWH MWT – fall theme

Autumn… say it isn’t so! The summer is flying by; school starts in less than 30 days. I need to finish school shopping… thank goodness for Catholic school uniforms, at least. (Yeah, retailers, I’m looking at you. Clothing for seven year olds should make them look like seven year olds, not teens. Thanks.)

Since this week’s Operation Write Home challenge is to make fall cards, and I don’t have much “fall” stamping stuff so I dug into my stash of “gotta use this up” baggies that just have a few pieces of random paper lines. This is Authentique, I do believe, what line exactly has escaped me. I wasn’t all that keen on it. ๐Ÿ™‚

It still made a nice card, though!

Blogger buddy April challenge – Dads!

Hello there! It’s April and time for the first blogger buddy challenge of the month with my good friend Sarah. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was hoping that we’d be enjoying some warmer weather by now, but ice and snow are what I see outside… if the forecast holds true, we might make it to 50 this week! Did I mention I started our seedlings for a container garden? ย ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

They’re sprouting. And I have no reason to think I can put them outside anytime soon. I need some pots, pronto! ย

Sarah challenged us to make Dad cards with a mustache. I don’t have any mustaches, so I did a dad card with a tag. I’m flexible like that. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Authentique paper
SU ribbon scrap
Twinery twine; Verve stamp set

AND Sarah made me this tag (and a whole bunch more) with her Cricut! Yay! I love tags. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Be sure to hop over to her blog and see what she cooked up…

OWH ODBD scallop challenge; Feb recap

Hello! It’s the first Saturday of the month and that means the Our Daily Bread Challenge for OWH! For every 25 cards linked; ODBD will cover the cost of mailing a box overseas (limit of 2 boxes).ย

The challenge this month is to use scallops on a card. The mother’s day deadline is quickly approaching, so I’veย been making ‘mom’ cards. (Truth – I very rarely make ANY ‘happy x day’ cards; I make generic ones so they can be used longer.)

Basic Grey Eva paper; Gina K card stock
Ali Edwards for TT sentiment, Worn Lipstick ink and edge punch

And a quick February recap. I’ve started a silly goal of saving my ATG rolls to see how many I use in a month:
Only 6! January was 10.
I only made these two lonely Christmas cards (and I made them on Thursday, LOL!) but I made kits to make another nine or so. I just need to assemble them.

Authentique scraps, Hero Arts sentiment

Thank you for visiting me today. Come back tomorrow; there’s more awesomeness in store and a melt-your-heart and make-you-cry ministry to learn about.

Unity’s FWF 1/25 – happy birthday

Hello there! It’s Friday and time for Unity’s Friends with Flair link up – be sure to hop back to the Unity blog. You can win Unity stamps for linking up your project and commenting on everyone else’s blogs!

I have been trying to use up some paper. I separated out my stash of 6×6 pads (I have only a few sheets of 12×12) and put all the scraps where they belong (gosh, I sound like my mother) this week. You can see my paper stash here. I am committed to not buying ANY MORE until I use a bunch of this up!!

I had this paper out the other day to make an Easter card, so I made a masculine and feminine birthday card as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ The second card is sketch 121 from the Operation Write Home blog.ย

OWH MWT – Easter

With our super cold temps this week, it’s hard to think of Easter and spring to make cards! (I’ll fully admit to turning on Christmas music in September to get inspired, but I’m not sure how to “think spring” when it’s -30!). The Operation Write Home challenge today is to make Easter cards, though, as shipping deadlines come early to ensure that cards can get to our heroes and back home to the US in time.

I got this cross stamp in a random bag from Unity Stamp Co, and I love it and have used it countless times. Did you see my paper-holic pictures from this post yesterday? I used up paper from one of the ‘almost gone’ baggies to make this card:
Authentique Free Bird paper
Unity Stamp Co cross stamp
Tim Holtz ink: Aged mahogany and antique linen
tiny pearls from stash
I liked the floral with the cross in red (how’s that for symbolism, eh??). To me it says renewal and new life.

Thanks for looking!

Unity 1/11/13 FWF; a new light box, and goals for 2013!

Happy New Year! I hope that 2013 is finding you well so far. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have had more energy than I’ve had in a long time – more sleep will do that to you, I hear – and I’m accomplishing lots of tasks that have been neglected for too long.ย

It’s Friday and time for Friends with Flair over at the Unity blog. You could win free stamps from linking up and commenting, and the projects are always awesome, so be sure to hop back to the Unity blog to check it all out. ๐Ÿ™‚ There’s a big sale, as well, to celebrate Angela’s birthday! I created a “for sale” page too, up ^^^ there. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is my card, which leads me to one of my goals for 2013:

Authentique dp; PTI ripe avacado, Gina K ivory card stock
SU red riding hood pleated ribbon
Nesties labels 18; Unity’s Itty Bitty “my strength & song, Lord”
Corner Chomper, SU ruby red ink, Tim Holtz antique linen ink

My theme (not resolution!) is to do more with less in 2013. Less stuff, less weight slowing me down, less pointless obligations, less guilt over things that aren’t truly important. ย Less lets you love what you have and do even more, I think.

One of my goals for 2013 is to make 5 holiday cards a month for Operation Write Home. Last year I started doing this in March and by October (the mailing date for Christmas cards), I had a decent sized pile ready to send.

Another goal is to be a better blogger, using a light box to photograph photos and watermarking everything. I know, I know, I’m behind the times. This tutorial was great for the light box. I even found a clip on light at Goodwill today and bought a $$$ light bulb, but I think I bought the wrong kind as my photos were turning very yellow. Grrrr!! Total cost: $13, not including replacing the light bulb. Still not bad, and it took mere minutes to put together!

Have a good weekend,
Jen

OWH Sketch 154 and more :)

Hey there! Is it Tuesday already?? ย Wow. The new year is off to a great start here – Christmas break was super rejuvenating, and though the flu is making the rounds we’ve been healthy enough. I’m not going to complain!!

I finally got a chance to play along on sketch 154 from Operation Write Home. I’d like to offer a great, big welcome to Marlene, the new “sketch lady!” ๐Ÿ™‚ ย My first attempt was not so hot, but I tried again and I like the end result:

Momento London Fog ink; Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet ink

I made a lightbox from Paula’s tutorial over at the Stars & Stamps blogย today. I need better lighting yet, but wow – what a difference! My box has a spot right on top of my printer, LOL. What can I say? I’m a little crunched for space in here.ย

The Nesties shape is my blog win from Krystil’s blog on New Year’s. ๐Ÿ™‚ I LOVE these new labels… thank you, Krystil!ย

I found a great local stamping resource – Lighthouse Books & Gifts in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. If you are anywhere near or traveling through, be sure to stop in and check it out. They have a truly awesome selection of stamps, dies, inks, and embossing folders. They even carry a bunch of 6×6 pads, and I know I”m not the only paper addict out there. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for visiting me today!

GIU Day 5 & Unity FWF 12/21

Hello friends! It’s FRIDAY! ๐Ÿ™‚ This is my last day as Growing in Unity girl… I am sad to see the week come to an end! I have loved seeing new visitors to my blog and all of your sweet comments. ๐Ÿ™‚ย

It’s Friday and that means Friends with Flair over at the Unity blog... but before I get to project pics, yesterday we got about 10″ of snow. Seriously. And LOTS of wind. So no school… hmmm, what to do?
Salt dough ornaments! And a salt dough snowman with hat and scarf. ๐Ÿ™‚
You should’ve seen our hands after from all of the dye. GROSS.
What’s a snow day without playing outside in the snow?
They looked like roly poly snowgirls. ๐Ÿ™‚
Movies, crafting, coloring, a little bit of crafting time for me… it was a nice day with my girls. ๐Ÿ™‚

So. Yesterday I had this smallish scrap of pretty, pretty Authentique paper and could not bear to toss it, so I made it into this:
Authentique dp, Gina K kraft and PTI ripe avacado cardstock
Unity KOM sentiment
random ribbon from stash, scoring tool
I scored the bottom of the card around the sentiment and used up that scrap of ribbon creating a ruffled banner. I adhered it with my very own glue dots; if you want to see how to make glue dots or how I store my glue dots you can see this post (it’s cool. You should look.)

This card I am less impressed with, but my DH really liked it. He said it was more masculine. With a bow??? I am not sure.ย
Authentique paper (used it UP! go me!)
Unity Nov 2011 KOM sentiment
SU edge punch, random ribbon and glue dot to adhere
Because this post isn’t long enough, I have a couple of gift bags my oldest helped me make. This one is for her teacher. We spritzed it with shimmer paint mixed with hairspray and she got a huge glob right in the middle. OOPS. I’m quite sure her teacher is used to first-grader crafting creations.ย
Unity’s Snowglobe Wonderland

And this one I made for one of our nieces and did marginally better on the spritzing. LOL By the way, this Snowflake Kisses set is becoming one of my go-to’s for winter cards. I LOVE it.

Thank you so much for making it all the way to the bottom! Don’t forget to leave a comment – and go back and comment on my other posts – for more chances to win. Unity will give away 2 Itty bitty’s and I will give away a Unity grab bag ย as well (Winners drawn on Sunday morning)! Merry Christmas!

Before I forget, make sure to come back tomorrow for the World Cardmaking Day Operation Write Home bloghop. I will have Unity Stamps for blog candy!!!

I’m working on some holiday cards this week. I was never crazy about this big bough stamp until I thought to emboss it one day… now I love it! So pretty, yet so simple.
